Martinez came in slightly under the radar in ’06, possibly overshadowed by the media hype surrounding fellow rookie and Brazilian wunderkind Adriano de Souza. However the fleet-footed Californian wasted no time in putting the ASP Foster’s 45 on notice with a third-place finish at the season opener Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast quickly backed up with a win at the Billabong Pro Tahiti. The storybook year would play out with another victory at the Billabong Pro Mundaka, ASP Rookie of the Year and a top-5 finish. Accolades have steamed in by the boatload since the progressive goofy-footer first donned the Dream Tour singlet and this season will see how Martinez handles himself out of the shadows and into the spotlight. Bobby showed the world he is a contender last season and look for him to back it up this year.
